As any avid GBC maker will tell you, the most important thing about it is the little soccer and basketballs. The most important thing about those is how similar to the official LEGO balls they are. We all know that the official stuff can get expensive, so we look for less expensive alternatives. Some of us use 14mm beads, others use refills from another marble run system, but all of us know that those balls may not work with all modules. Some modules require a certain weight or diameter to work properly, or at least without being re-tuned. So, the first thing I did once I received these was measure them. Here is my methodology: Randomly grab 4 official LEGO balls from my collection and 4 of these Brick Loot brand, then use digital calipers set to millimeters (accurate to two decimal points) to measure the diameter. These averaged out to 14.0775mm for the LEGO balls and 13.9875 for the Brick Loot ones (The largest and smallest LEGO balls were 14.16mm and 14.01mm respectively, and the largest and smallest Brick Loot balls were 14.03mm and 13.96mm respectively). Then, I used a digital scale set to grams (accurate to the nearest whole gram, unfortunately) to weigh 40 of each brand (I only have 47 official LEGO balls, or I'd weigh more). 40 LEGO balls weighed 59g, or 1.475g each on average, and 40 Brick Loot balls weighed 57g, or 1.425g each on average. Here is my conclusion: This is one of the most accurate alternatives to the official ball, being 99.36% of its size and 96.61% of its weight on average. Based entirely on the numbers, while I wouldn't be confident in using them in a ball-launching module that required stud-wide accuracy to operate (aside from the fact that I wouldn't be confident submitting such a module), I *would* be confident using them in literally any other module. Unfortunately, I don't have a functioning module to test them in at the time of writing this or I would run them through it to see how it works. One tiny nitpick: The debossed lines that make up the soccer ball pattern are a tad deeper than the official ones, which contributes to the slightly lighter weight. As the molds get used, those lines will gradually wear down and become more shallow, so later batches will be closer in weight to the official balls. This shouldn't effect the performance of the ball in any way.Thank you for reading this. I hope you found it helpful and informative.
